Cedar Springs
Type:
A moderate backpacking trek that is
perfect for everyone from beginer to expert.
Directions:
From the intersection of Highway's 74
and 243 head south on 243 towards Palm Desert. At the Keenwild
Ranger Station turn left and continue up the road for approximately
5 miles to the turnout across from the Girl Scout Camp. The trail is
up the road about 100 yards on the right.
Trail
Notes:
The trail meanders along a spring fed creek into a beautiful
meadow where you can see the many switch-backs that await you. With
foliage along the trail rarely exceeding 5 feet tall, the view of
Tripp Meadow is seldom obstructed. After climbing nearly
one-thousand (1000) feet, you will cross the Pacific Crest Trail. Beyond the
crossing you can see most of Coachella Valley until you come
upon a Cedar Grove in which will be your
camp for the night. Protected from the weather by a canopy of well-aged cedars,
you can enjoy a peaceful night out of the winds that
you may encounter along the trail. Generally, water is available from
a spring near camp year-round.
