2003 Section W4B Conclave - Rain, Rain, and More Rain
The Section W4B Conclave was held May 2-4, 2003, at Camp Emerson in Idyllwild.
It was the first time the event was held at the camp since 1960. Our Lodge had
a good group of 113 Scouts and Scouters that attended the event, though that
amount was low by our standards.
Cahuilla Lodge # 127 had the honor of being the Service Lodge for this event,
meaning we helped operate the conclave through manpower and location expertise.
In particular, we are indebted to the efforts of Brad Denbo, who was the chairman
that prepared Camp Emerson for one of the largest events in its history. While
439 participants attended, many left after being rain-soaked. Brad's efforts for
months before the event made the Conclave successful despite some very
challenging weather.
Despite the weather and a little disappointment in our attendance and lack of
spirit, Cahuilla Lodge did go home with the 2003 Lodge Excellence Award. This
award is symbolic of our performance over the past 12 months and is a testament
to the hard work of every member in our Lodge.
Congratulations also go out to Michael Gollner, who was elected the Section W4B
Chief. In accordance with national rules, Michael is stepping down as Cahuilla
Lodge Chief and Chris Horn is taking his position.
Next year is a great opportunity to come back firing on all cylinders! Cahuilla
Lodge will want to bring a huge attendance and win back the Spirit Award!
The current tentative site is Chaffey High School, and the Conclave will be
serviced by Navajo Lodge # 98. You can almost hear the chant 12 months before
the event...."Bring The Spirit Award Back Home!"
