Training Sessions

The Saturday morning training sessions will offer information on everything from how to run a proper Chapter meeting to the culture of the local Native Tribes. There will be three 50 minute training sessions on Saturday morning. 

 

Steve and Noel Alvarez

Yaqui/Mayo Tribal Elder Louis Alvarez  Do's and Don'ts of performing Native American Dance

Trainer- Louis and Steve Alvarez

   Louis Alvarez is a Yaqui/Mayo Elder Tribal elder from Yuma, AZ. He is a Brotherhood member and has been a member of Cahuilla Lodge for several years.  His son, Steve Alvarez, is also from the Yaqui tribe. The Alvarez family are well know locally for their performance in the annual Ramona Pageant in Hemet.

 

Loom Style Bead Work

Trainer- Marty Hisington

   Born and raised in San Diego, Marty has been creating Native American beadwork since the age of 12. She spent her youth creating ceremonial Kumyaay regalia for the local Native Tribes in central San Diego County and has been practicing her craft for the last 40 years. Her bead work can be found being worn by many dancers on the southern California Pow Wow circuit and displayed in many  Tribal and museum collections.

 

Local Native Legend and Lore

Trainer- James Blackmountain

   James is a member of the O'otam Nation of Western Apache from Ajo, AZ. His family has lived among the Native Tribes of the southern California deserts since 1920. James is a Tribal Historian for the Desert Cahuilla, Tribal liaison for the Cabazon Nation, a registered Native painter, and is a recognized Native Christian Gospel Minister.

 

Advanced Adviser Training- "From a Youth Perspective"

Trainer- Brandon Schleeter

   Brandon is the 2006 Cahuilla Lodge Chief.  A member of Cahuilla Lodge for 6 years, he received the Vigil Honor in 2004.  His advanced adviser course has been created specifically by Cahuilla Lodge members, youth and adult, and has been taught at Fall Fellowship and Conclave.
