Chapter Histories:
Quick Info:
The Yamiwa Chapter of Cahuilla Lodge was one of the original chapters formed in 1974. It continued in existence until 1995, when it was absorbed by the Tahquitz Chapter. Its area roughly covered the greater Hemet Valley communities of Hemet and San Jacinto, surrounding smaller communities, and Idyllwild.

The name, Yamiwa, is Luiseno Indian in origin, which is alleged to have been one of the many names for Tahquitz Peak (External link, courtesy of sierraclub.com). Read About It. Don Turk mentioned that the word in the chapter was that it meant "Mountain to the North."

At its peak, Yamiwa produced a number of youth leaders and adults active in the lodge. However, once its district, Three Peaks, had merged with the Tri-Lakes district, it would only be a matter of time before the chapter would be absorbed.
