One of the most important duties for Cahuilla Lodge # 127 and the Order of
the Arrow is recognizing those among us who have gone beyond the call of
duty in giving service the Order of the Arrow and Scouting.
The Spring season brings upon us the time to nominate those who we feel are
worthy to wear the triangle on their sash. Any youth or adult may nominate
a person using the Youth and Adult Vigil Nomination forms. Nomination forms
must be turned in to
Scott Hatton, 2003 Vigil Honor Adviser, by April 24, 2003. Forms can be turned in personally, emailed, or mailed to the C.I.E.C. Office
in care of the
Lodge Staff Adviser.
Since our Lodge's inception, we have recognized 323 Scouts and Scouters with
the Vigil Honor, a testament to their dedication to our program as well as
a symbol for all of the positive experiences each and every one of them has
had making Cahuilla Lodge a great organization.
The nominating committee will meet on June 7, 2003, to review all nominations
and select this year's group of worth Arrowmen. Selected members will then be
sent to the National Office for approval, with a letter going out to the
nominee and recognition at the
Fall Fellowship.
Background On The Vigil Honor
The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position of office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout Camp. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.
Any member of the Order of the Arrow registered in Scouting and in good standing in a regularly chartered lodge is eligible for recommendation to the national Order of the Arrow Committee for elevation to the Vigil Honor provided that, at the time of the recommendation, the individual has been a Brotherhood member for a minimum of two years. A lodge may nominate a maximum of two percent of their registered Arrowmen once a year, through the Vigil Honor petition, found in the annual re-charter packet. At least 50 percent of all nominated must be under 21 at the time of nomination.
