The Chief Speaks
"Oh my father. I am ready. Send me on this gracious errand."

These important words repeated by Meteu in the Ordeal Ceremony tell the story of young Uncas volunteering to go upon a journey to warn neighboring tribes to fierce marauders who were threatening the peace the Lenni Lenape Indians were harboring in. The task at hand was dangerous but Uncas solemnly rose to the challenge. It was his courage, enthusiasm, and leadership which he used for the value of helping others.

As as Order of the Arrow member, you have chosen to rise to another challenge. Your peers, seeing your courage, enthusiasm, and leadership elected you to membership. By choosing to join this great and honored organization, you have chosen to go upon a personal journey despite other's hesistance and timidness.

What is the task at hand? Every arrowman should make several efforts and personal sacrifices for the sake of others. Teaching that new Scout the bowline, cajoling that wayword Troop to go to sumemr camp, are just some of the infinite ways we can give back to Scouting what we as Scouts and Scouters were treasured with.

We must all seek the higher vision in life. We all must learn from Uncas' heroic example and be inspired to act in the same spirited he explicated to us. I leave you with one question to ponder and think about Uncas' great deed. Are you willing to go upon the journey?
