Brothers and Sisters in the Wimachtiendienk,
As the incominng Chief of the Cahuilla Lodge, I would like to say a few words about my expectations and goals for the coming year. Before us lies an opportunity for service that our lodge, and our order have never known. With the advent of communications technology, coupled with the development of leadership training, the members of Cahuilla can perform an uprecedented amount of cheerful service, camping promotion and training, all to the benefit of our units, our neighbors and our entire world.
I will have many goals for both the Lodge and myself, but one in particular I would like to stress here and now, and continue to stress forever is simple yet all encompassing: DO SOMETHING. The nature of the Order of the Arrow dictates that our Lodge has members with diverse backgrounds, with unique and valuable skills.
I would like to see these skills put to good use. If you have computer skills, and spend a good deal of time on the computer, join
a Chapter or Lodge Website team. Or, if you cant program Websites, run for Chapter Secretary or someother vital, clerical position. Be a Historian for your Chapter, or Representative for your Unit. Serve a few months on an Election team, or a Camping Promotion team (!) or a Service team. After all, what Scout wouldnt like a few more people to help him out on his service project or Junior Leader Training?
As Dr. E. Urner Goodman said, "the Order of the Arrow is a thing of the spirit." It exists not only at Conclave, Fall Fellowship and Ordeals; The Order of the Arrow is more than a lodge, or a meeting, or a Lodge Leadership Development Course. The OA follows us home to our units, to our fellows and into our hearts. That is WHERE the OA is: In the living, beating heart of every single Arrowman in our Lodge. If each one of us put that spirit to use, the Brotherhood, Cheer and Service that we could live and perform would be limitless.
Your Brother in cheerful service,
Brian J. Hall
